What is Whiplash?

Whiplash is an injury that happens when your neck is thrown forward and backward forcibly. When you experience a car accident, the sudden halt and impact of the vehicle can cause the injury. An auto accident is not the only cause of whiplash. It can also occur due to sports injury, amusement park rides, and falls.

Symptoms of Whiplash

The most common symptom of whiplash is neck pain and stiffness. However, you may also experience pain in the arms, back, and shoulders, along with headaches. Not only that, but whiplash can also result in muscle tightness in the neck, upper back, and shoulders, and headaches. The condition can cause symptoms you may not expect as well, such as dizziness, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, and blurred vision.

How a Chiropractor Can Treat Whiplash

Many people view whiplash as normal after an accident and may not seek treatment. Whiplash symptoms can take hours or even days to appear, which may cause you to delay seeking chiropractic care. After an accident, it's best to see our chiropractor as quickly as possible for pain relief.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation is a fundamental part of chiropractic care. Our chiropractor will use gentle thrusts and pressure to correct spinal misalignments. They can also adjust your neck, shoulders, and other joints to correct misalignments throughout the body. Spinal alignment can relieve pain, speed up healing, increase blood flow, and improve nervous system function.

Laser Therapy

While spinal manipulation can correct misalignments after an accident, you may still have muscle stiffness, inflammation, and pain. Laser therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses a laser light to reduce your symptoms.

The laser penetrates deep into your tissues, which helps with healing. It also increases cellar regeneration, relieves muscle tightness and spasms, improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and alleviates pain. Many patients feel relief immediately after treatment, which takes 5-10 minutes. You may notice pain relief, increased range of motion, and a reduced in stiffness in your neck and shoulders.

Muscle Stimulation (E-Stim)

Muscle stimulation, also known as E-stim, can be beneficial in eliminating symptoms of whiplash. This treatment uses electrical stimulation to help the muscles in your neck to contract. While this may seem counterintuitive, it actually helps to relax tight muscles. In addition, the method can increase blood flow, strengthen injured muscles, and release endorphins.
